Marine & Boat Treatment: your questions answered

What does Vecom B80 Aircooler Cleaner do?

Turbocharged diesel engines with charge-air coolers gradually coat the cooler’s air side with oily fouling, which raises charge temperatures and fuel consumption. Vecom B80 is the marine-grade cleaner dosed to clean those air coolers — restoring heat transfer and boost pressure without stripping the cooler out of the engine. It is a standing consumable on the Walvis Bay fishing fleet, supplied through Cernol as the Namibian channel for Vecom marine chemistry, with stock movements aligned to the fleet’s sailing schedules.

How do I treat rust on a boat before repainting?

Phoskleen — it removes the rust and conditions the metal in one step, acting as a primer base before spray-painting. On the Namibian coast the cycle is: wash the salt off, mechanically remove loose scale, treat with Phoskleen, rinse and dry per the label, then paint. Skipping the conversion step and painting over “cleaned” rust is why coastal paint jobs fail in months. Paint or prime treated surfaces as soon as the label allows — de-rusted steel left bare starts rusting again within hours at the coast.

What stops algae and sludge in a boat’s diesel tanks?

Chemicide No 7, dosed into the tanks — the microbial growth at the fuel–water interface is what blocks filters mid-trip, and a boat that loses fuel flow at sea has a much bigger problem than a truck on the B1. Walvis Bay operators dose tanks routinely, especially boats that stand between seasons, because condensation keeps feeding the growth. Dose to tank volume, and change filters after the first treatment of a dirty system — the killed growth still has to leave through them.

Can Cernol supply vessels directly in the Port of Walvis Bay?

Yes — through our Walvis Bay agent (Swachem, a fellow SWACO Group company) on 4th Street East, minutes from the harbour. Marine cleaners, tank treatment, cooling-water chemistry (CCW 5), descalers and the fish-factory hygiene range can be delivered quayside by arrangement; give the vessel name, agent and sailing date with your enquiry. Stock not held at the coast comes down on the scheduled run from the Windhoek factory, normally within two to four working days.
